The primary catalyst behind A1 Telekom Austria’s NG-SOM (Next Gen Service Order Management) project was to undertake an OSS (Operations Support System) transformation to significantly reduce the number of systems and complexity in their OSS environment, a complexity exacerbated by the merger of A1 Austria and Telekom Austria in 2010.
A1 Telekom Austria also sought to enable a seamless order management process to support all lines of business, bringing mobile service orchestration (originally from A1 Austria) onto one platform together with TV and fixed line service orchestration.
A1 Telekom Austria undertook a radical transformation project to simplify their complex OSS environment. Company mergers and acquisitions had contributed to a business landscape comprising disparate systems, and a large number of complex underlying processes for fundamentals such as introducing new products to market, combining offerings and billing customers.
Infonova technology was chosen to integrate into the A1 Telekom Austria OSS landscape as a new, converged order fulfillment and provisioning platform, thereby bringing all systems onto one platform, enabling quicker and simpler provisioning and better assignment and handling of tasks for the operations team. The technology provided service catalog and provisioning for the fulfilment of most of A1 Telekom Austria’s services.
The Infonova technology is an overlay to a highly complex OSS, enabling a seamless connection to pre-existing systems, and giving A1 Telekom Austria the future advantage to terminate these legacy systems without impacting business operations. The company plans to discontinue all legacy and bring them onto the new OSS by 2019.

Successful implementation of the Infonova technology into A1 Telekom Austria’s business landscape has allowed the company to transform its OSS environment from a complex entity encompassing many systems and processes, to a single platform that is streamlined, automated and much easier to handle. A1 Telekom Austria has more control of its own business through self-management of the Infonova service catalog, improving time to market for new products and reducing requirements for technical support. Since implementation, there has been a significant increase in speed of order fulfillment.
BearingPoint//Beyond provides A1 Telekom Austria with a reliable foundation to support its future business goals and a scalable platform to adapt as times change and the business grows. The company now has the ability to expand to non-Telco business markets (e.g. IoT) or utilize the platform’s multi-tenant functionality in a global TAG context, introducing other countries’ processes onto the same system.
